First Baptist Church of Mira Mesa
|
Mission Phase 1969 - 1971
FBCMM started as a mission on Easter, April 6 1969 in University City. The mission first met in a local elementary school and in the homes of it's members. The mission was co-sponsored by the First Baptist Churches of Clairemont and San Diego.
Early Church Phase 1971 - 1974
In June of 1971, FBCMM was constituted, and concentrated its ministry and work in Mira Mesa. FBCMM met in several places in the community including Miramar College, Walker Elementary, the local ice rink, and the homes of its members. The present church site was purchased by FBCMM from the Home Mission Board in cooperation with San Diego Southern Baptist Association who had acquired the land in 1963. In December of 1974, FBCMM began meeting in the portable buildings now known as building C and D.
Church Building Phase 1975 - 1989
In 1979 FBCMM completed the construction of the education building and sanctuary (present day building B and Fellowship Hall). God continued to grow FBCMM and the present day sanctuary was completed in 1988. One night after a revival service, the sanctuary was set on fire by an arsonist, but praise the Lord that His people were not discouraged. A year later, repairs were finished and FBCMM met once again in their sanctuary.
The Current Years 1990 - Present
God has continued to use FBCMM to reach the community of Mira Mesa and its surrounding areas. In recent years, God has established ministries at FBCMM such as the DOVE Ministry and MiST ( for military families), mission churches, Faith in Action, and many community events.
